Piece Brewpub – Chicago, Illinois
Wow!! All the hype is correct. The awards are there and they prove it every step of the way.
We arrived in Chicago knowing that this was the one place that we wanted to go. We jumped on the Red Line and transferred at Jackson to the Blue Line heading to O’Hare. Once we got to the stop on Damen , it was only a block away. Quick and Simple.
- Sweeeet.
As we walked in we noticed it was an open place with a large bar, plenty of seating and many televisions. It’s like an upscale sports bar-pizzeria. Perfect combination for me.
We sat down and Brent, our waiter, was there within seconds. He offered some great suggestions and was very knowledgeable.I took his advice and looked toward the Cameltoe. I’ve always been fond of the Cameltoe, but this one was different. The tightness of the beer did not show through. There was no lumpiness and it wasn’t shining through it’s Guess Jeans. It actually tasted hoppy with bitterness instead of the normal loving sweetness I was accustomed.
We then ordered a medium pizza (see pic) that we were able to design ourselves. One word, Delicious! Goat Cheese, Spinach, Artichoke Hearts, Garlic and Parmesan all on a hand-tossed crust. The giant size of it shocked and awed us. I was in tears and the joy was overwhelming. (Maybe, it was the 9.5% abv of the Cameltoe that pushed my emotions to the edge.) There would be no to-go box on this day. It was mine to conquer and that I did.
I felt like I was in the sequel to “The Breakfast Club. ” Stoners, Geeks, Loners, Jocks and the Princess were sitting side by side enjoying pizzas and beer. They were discussing what their lives were going to be like and making romantic connections. Okay, maybe not the romantic connections, but there were tons of different people there. It’s a people watchers haven.
The area that surrounds Piece is very nice and upscale. There are other places around here that you can visit including the infamous Map Room, but I would highly recommend this place.
