Kentucky is known for a lot of things. Bluegrass, Fried Chicken, The Moonbow and, of course, Bourbon. But another type of brewing is catching on quick and the leader in this category, Craft Beer, is the Bluegrass Brewing Company.
When we went through Kentucky, I wasn’t sure where the locations of this well known brewery were, but we ended up being close to one of their three locations ( a new location is opening soon). The one we visited is on the East Side of Louisville. They also have one downtown and are opening one across from the new stadium downtown on 3rd and main.

Now, we went here back in August and the weather was beautiful . The patio was ready for the live band and the crowd was pretty lively and it was a Sunday! There were a couple of games on and my hangover was subsiding from another Brewpub the night before. (Ok, that’s a lie. I don’t actually get hangovers. I know, I know…. It IS a curse!)
Well, anyway, if I had a hangover, the food served at BBC would have been the perfect cure. It’s been so long that I can’t recall what I had, but I remember that it hit the spot.
We walked around a bit and saw that there were quite a few older gentlemen hanging around the bar. It was like a McDonald’s on Wednesday morning except instead of ordering the 20 cent Senior coffee they were enjoying their favorite pint at BBC. Now that is living the dream.
I would have to say that overall this was an exceptional brewpub. It had character, cleanliness and one of my favorites, coffee beer. (Made with a local brand of coffee.) With two other locations, I would have to say that it’s a local favorite, as well. It has a classic mug club that is doing quite well. Just check out the pictures of the mugs all over the place. They’ve even taken over the dart board area. Also, if you check out their website and the awards on the wall you can see that they are not a “one and done” award winner. They are still a brewpub that continues to evolve. Most recently they took 3rd place at the Barrel Aged Beer Festival in Chicago. (Using the barrels from delicious Knob Creek Bourbon)
BBC is moving forward and taking all the right steps to insure it’s success and the success of all brewpubs in Kentucky. A definite “must see, must do” on the list of Beer Travels. Cheers!
